Proposed monument to Willie Gallacher MP on the corner of High Street and New Street, Paisley. Gallacher, born and died in Paisley, was elected MP for West Fife and was the longest serving Communist MP in British Parliamentary history. An engineering worker by trade, he first became involved in Labour politics in 1905. He rose to prominence as a leader of the Clyde Workers’ Committee during the Great War and became the founding member of the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1920.
