Title: Carryduff Code Level 5 Houses

Address: Carrduff, Belfast

Client: Royal Society of Ulster Architects

Sector: Residential

Value: £8million

Work stage: Competition

We have recently completed this layout for 70 dwellings in Northern Ireland. The site plan and house plans have been designed with sustainable living and design at its core, meeting both requirements for the Code for Sustainable Home Level 5 as well as Lifetime Homes criteria.

The topography and orientation of the site led the design team to group most of the housing on the most level part of the site along the southern boundary. Using the economic and thermal benefits terraced houses give, a close knit community is created where all dwellings have southern facing living spaces. A variety of tenures, house sizes, terraces, homezones and public and private outdoor door spaces is presented, encouraging both sustainable design and living and improving the quality of living.

The Code is met in each of the seven sections, by address issues from efficient site plans to floor plans; energy and water consumption to waste management and recycling; using local materials and encouraging ecological development.
